Our senior badminton team had a tremendous season. With their determination and hardwork, they won multiple tournaments and successfully qualified to Ropsaa.
Practice took place every week after school, where our team would learn new techniques and get practice with the help of the coach: Mr. Croft. They would compete against each other and learn from their mistakes.
What Mr. Croft liked the most was, “that each player gets the opportunity to show their skill, while at the same time learning about what they can improve on for the future. I also like hanging out with all the cool badminton kids, because they are super fun!”
When Jasmine Kaur, one of the athletes, was asked about her experience, she said, “It was wonderful. Everyone was so extremely skilled, it always motivated me to learn more from my teammates and my coach. We were all always striving to improve, and it was amazing seeing how everyone always encouraged and supported each other.”
They participated at many tournaments including the one at Heartlake and Jean Augustine, and finally made their way to prove themselves at the Ropsaa qualifiers, where only the top two from each division would qualify to Ropsaa. Athletes from our school qualified for different divisions including Girls Singles and Boys Singles.
Mr. Croft also mentions that, “For next steps, I think that players need to be more aware of their weaknesses and focus on trying to improve on them.”
When Kaur was asked what could have been better, she said, “Even though I know we got as many practice sessions as we possibly could, I wish we got more. I genuinely enjoyed spending time with the team. I loved every second I spent playing badminton, and I wish I could play even more!”
Mr. Croft reflects, “The overall experience is fantastic. Badminton is a great sport to coach.” Badminton isn’t just a sport, it is a journey where our athletes learn to support each other and participate in tournaments with confidence and resilience.
