From late November to early March, the junior girls' volleyball team has been on a mission: to outwork their past selves and redefine their game. After a season of intense transformation, the team had a chance to showcase their skills when they played their final game of the season at David Suzuki Secondary School on March 5th, 2026.

As the weeks of the season progressed, the athletes were able to successfully identify their specific roles, leaning into their individual strengths and positions to benefit not just themselves, but the whole team. Ms. Holtom, the team’s coach, said guest coaches were invited to provide training and fresh perspectives on the game, helping players further develop their skills and teamwork.

Pavit Sekhon, a member of the volleyball team, said, “I think that over the season I improved in many areas, such as my serving and passing. As the season progressed, our communication and chemistry became stronger, which allowed us to play better as a team.”

Kate Burrows, another member of the team, was asked to reflect on the tournament and performance.

“We went against many different secondary schools, including Chinguacousy, St. Thomas, Notre Dame, Fletcher's Meadow, David Suzuki, Central Peel, and a few more,” she stated. “I’m not sure if there was a specific game I was proud of playing, because I felt proud of every game with my teammates.”

Their last game of the season took place at David Suzuki on March 5th, where the girls were able to play in the bronze medal game. Facing off against Brampton Centennial, the team dropped the opening set and trailed by three in the second. However, they staged an impressive comeback in their third game, pushing the match to the limit before narrowly missing the podium in a tight 27-26 finish, ultimately securing fourth place overall.

Sekhon also reflected on her thoughts regarding their last tournament. “Even though this was the last game of the season, we still gave it our all and tried to perform to the best of our abilities,” Sekhon said. “While we were focused on the games, we also continued to have fun with each other.”

Although the girls narrowly missed the playoffs this year, the progress made since last season is undeniable. Even though the season has come to a close, these players are already looking towards next year. Many hope to continue practicing through the Volleyball Club or through school tournaments later this year, with the desire to return to the team stronger next season.
