On February 24th, 2026, the table tennis team went to Turner Fenton to compete in the table tennis tournament. They put in much effort into practicing for one month. In the end, the tournament was successful, and we left with the national champions and three groups advancing to ROPSSAA (The Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association) Championship taking place on March 4th, 2026.

During the tournament the team worked very hard on scoring points and advancing, and we even have a school champion, Wynne Guo, a grade nine student who won in the novice girls division. When questioned about her mindset in the games, she said, “Everytime I played a match, I told myself that I came here not for winning but for experience.” Guo was also questioned on how she stayed calm in the long rallies and high-pressure points. She responded, “Whenever I'm playing long rallies or high-pressure points, all I'm focusing on is the game. Don't worry too much.”

We had two doubles pairs make it to ROPSSAA. The first pair, Abilash Subashtharan and Ella Scovell, was for mixed doubles. The second pair was Jordan Cantrell and Zahara Ausaru. When asked about their strengths as a pair, they responded, “We have been friends since kindergarten, so I think our strength is open communication and being lighthearted during games.” This was a very heartwarming response. When asked about how they felt during ROPSSAA, Ausaru said, "ROPSSAA was a pretty big jump from the qualifiers, but we played some good points and had fun and missed some more school. Yay. It’s nice to just spend a day away and talk with people there.”

The head coach, Mr. Zucconi, says that he was satisfied with the tournament and how ROPSSAA went, but says that he mostly wants the competitors to be satisfied with themselves. When talking about the improvement through the season, he said, “General game sense and having more experience in game situations has led to more success.” When asked about what they can improve on, he said, “Most students should play more to improve their skills and play more against different people."

Overall, the tournament was an overall success, and our school came out with a champion and some excellent players. The tournament at Turner Fenton went wonderfully, and everyone had an amazing time with each other during the tournament day.
