On April 24th, our school hosted its third annual wellness day to support the mental and emotional aspects of students’ and staff’s lives. Students came to school and participated in two de-stressing activities until their early release at 11:08 AM.

For the past two years, Wellness Day has been a day for students to rid themselves of the stress of school and their personal life, and this year, students from the grade 12 Wellness and Society class hosted the sessions. The day started at 8:30 in the morning for many, but for some, it started at 8:00 AM to set up their engaging wellness activity. “It was lots of work to set it up, but throughout the day it was fun interacting and conversing with participants,” said Simrat, a student from one of these classes.

Students had options of doing activities such as slime-making, bracelet-making, Just Dance, board games, and many more. Hibah, a student who attended one of the sessions, said, “This day allowed me to de-stress, and I’m looking forward to it next year as well." At the end of the day, many students felt a lot more relaxed and great about the things they made and the time they spent at these amazing activities set up for them. They were truly able to relax and spend the day doing something they liked with their friends. Students were smiling and laughing while enjoying these activities with their peers, as the activities encouraged students to interact with others and take a break from schoolwork to focus on their mental and physical well-being.

This wellness day wouldn’t have been possible without the planning of the Wellness and Society classes, various clubs, and staff members who helped with the organization for each session. In addition, the students who ran these sessions spent weeks preparing the required materials and activities they wanted to offer to students. Once again, the day was a success with more students eager to attend the next wellness day.
